Built on this 20 acre site in the heart of Darlington, the memorial hospital has served the residents of Darlington and surrounding area for over 90 years. The original hospital was built in memory of all those from the town who lost their lives during the First World War, with the names of every individual alphabetically engraved on stones places on the walls.
The hospital campus comprises of ten buildings, over twenty acres and supported by a network of 30 No. wiring centres. Within the hospital grounds there is A&E department operating 24 hours a day and is critical in serving the needs of a bustling market town. And the hospital benefits from extensive care facilities; from maternity wards, to critical care services and a busy outpatients departments. Such services require an IT infrastructure to be secure, stable and ensures the hospital will function under the everyday stress of a working day.
The Challenge
UCS Technologies were faced with the task of installing a new Wi-Fi infrastructure across all areas of the hospital, while ensuring there was no disruption to existing services to the network and working in and around a busy hospital departments. UCS Technologies were required to install a new physical infrastructure, meeting the latest standards and allowing flexibility in the design to allow for future network improvements.
All aspects of the installation were required to meet stringent health & safety standards, ensuring firewalls are maintained and cable pathways were of sufficient capacity and ensuring future expansion.
What UCS Technologies Did
UCS Technologies provided a Category 6A UTP EXCEL cabling solution to meet the demands of a high bandwidth wireless network. Our CMPT project management team worked closely with the main stake holders ensuring the new infrastructure was deployed while keeping all existing services live through each stage of the transition to the new network. This involved working in live environments in high footfall spaces at the same time ensuring there was no impact on patients or staff. Installation teams were often required to work evenings and weekends to ensure the project was completed on time and within the client’s budget.
